why do people go to therapy? How do I know if therapy is right for me?

People have many different motivations for seeking therapy. Some may be going through a major life transition (for example, the loss of a job, divorce, or the birth of a child), or are not handling stressful circumstances as well as they would like to. Some people need assistance managing a range of other issues, such as low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship problems, spiritual conflicts, and creative blocks. Therapy can help provide much needed encouragement and teach skills that help people weather stressful periods. Others may seek therapy because they are ready to learn more about themselves or because they want to move more effectively toward their goals. In short, people seek psychotherapy because they are ready to meet the challenges in their lives and ready to make changes in their lives.
